Your Social Committee has lined up some great events for the 2009-2010 school year. Following are some of the events with detailed information:
  • November 27, 2009 - Theatre Calgary, A Christmas Carol with dessert buffet.
  • February 26-28, 2010 - Ski Trip to Fernie
  • March 2010 - Dodgeball, location, price TBA

  • Urgent Action required by all ATA Members

    (New -10/14/09)

Reliable sources speculate that cuts to education funding for the 2010/2011 school year could be as high as $340 million (17% of the $2 billion in total cuts the Provincial Government is contemplating). Up to 1 in 10 teaching positions could be eliminated.

To influence the Government's budget planning which will take place between now and the end of November, the Association is mounting a major media campaign. Television and radio commercials will air for six weeks promoting the message "Cuts have consequences".

The website www.stopthecuts.ca contains more information, video's and links to alls MLA's. It is crucial that all teachers commit to lobby politicians and encourage family, friends and neighbours to do the same. If we miss this golden opportunity to influence government spending, next year schools may experience drastic reductions in staff and resources.
