A: There has been a significant change in what was expected of a part-time teacher and it is a
result of a policy grievance filed by our Local on December 7, 2006.
Friday, August 27, 2010 a memo was sent to principals indicating that part-time teachers cannot
be required to perform more than fifty percent (50%) of the non-instructional duties that can
be required of a full time teacher. For example: a part-time teacher would only be required
to be attend Professional Development days, District Organizational days, Faith Day, Teachers
Convention days and Parent/Teacher conferences on a .5 basis. Also a part-time teacher would
not be required to do more than half (.5) of the supervisory duties or other assignable duties of
a full time teacher.
Part-time teachers are encourage to ask their principal for a copy of the memo as there is more
information concerning staff meetings. more

A: The judicial review of the Hours of Work arbitration decision occurred on June 10, 2010 and
Justice Brooker heard the presentations from the Association lawyer first and then the District
lawyer. During the presentations Justice Brooker asked questions of both parties and at the
end he reserved judgment till a future date. We are currently waiting for his decision.
